Jamie Carragher has pointed the finger at Mohamed Salah and believes the Liverpool striker should "come out and speak for the team", following the Reds' sixth defeat in their last seven Premier League games. Arne Slot's squad suffered a 3-0 hammering by Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday - an outcome that sent the Reds tumbling to 11th in the table and left them a massive 11 points adrift of pace-setters Arsenal.
Looking back on yet another crushing loss and Liverpool's troubles, Carragher highlighted Salah as a player who ought to address the club's present troubles, with captain Virgil van Dijk instead having been the one to consistently front up to the media in recent weeks. Carragher pointed out that Salah frequently went public to discuss his contract situation last season, but argued that he has chosen to stay quiet whilst Liverpool endure a challenging spell.
Carragher told Sky Sports Monday Night Football: "I don't know. Nobody knows. The manager sees the players every day and he can't quite fix it at the moment. We are talking about a manager who has won the Premier League.
"I think Virgil van Dijk, after the game, has come out again and spoke as he should do as the captain and called Liverpool a mess. I must say on the back of all these Liverpool defeats it's always Van Dijk who comes out.
"And as I have said, the captain should do that but there should be other players in that dressing room coming out and speaking for the club.
"A year ago this weekend, Mo Salah wasn't shy in coming out and speaking about his own situation, about the club not offering him a contract.
"I only ever hear Salah speak when he gets man of the match or he needs a new contract.
"I would like to see Salah come out as one of the leaders, one the legends of Liverpool, come out and speak for the team. It shouldn't always be the captain."
Despite being a key player for Liverpool, Salah has only managed to net four goals and provide two assists in 12 Premier League matches this season.
This is a stark contrast to his stellar performance in the 2024/25 season, where he had a direct hand in 47 goals across the campaign.
