Gueye was handed his marching orders by referee Tony Harrington after the team-mates had exchanged words following a misplaced pass. The Senegal international appeared angry with Keane for an apparent lack of effort in attempting to get the ball which led Keane to pushing Gueye away before slapping him.
The laws of the game state that striking an opponent, or any other person, on the head or the face with their hand or arm is deemed as violent conduct.
