Idrissa Gana Gueye wasn't the only man seeing red at Old Trafford on Monday evening.
Standing on the touchline, not too far from the spot where Gueye slapped his team-mate Michael Keane across the face, was a progressively more and more irate Ruben Amorim as United lost 1-0 to Everton.
The Toffees were down to 10-men, and yet they looked like the team with the extra man as the Red Devils were frustrated during a freezing cold Monday evening in Manchester.
Amorim had employed his tried and tested five-back formation for Everton's visit - Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Luke Shaw made up the back three with Noussair Mazraoui and Patrick Dorgu as wing-backs.
Rather than stretching Everton or creating overloads, they settled for hopeful crosses, repeatedly launching the ball into a packed penalty area that the undermanned visitors defended with surprising comfort.

Gary Neville, who was on co-commentary for Sky Sports, took issue with Amorim's tactics: "How many Manchester United players can head it? There is no presence in the box whatsoever.
"Mbeumo has to go up top. He is too wide. This should be like the Alamo.
"Really quick, high-tempo passing side-to-side, getting into good wide areas, putting crosses in, getting bodies in attack, sustaining attacks. It's very slow from United.

"There is no presence in the box whatsoever."
United's insistence on crossing led right into the hands of the Toffees - who weathered every single storm United created.
And United fans were left fuming on social media, as one said: "It's crazy how we're spamming crosses for Zirkzee vs man mountains however when Sesko is on everybody wants to shoot on goal..."

"This could go on for another 3 hours and we’ll still be spamming crosses to Tarkowski and Keane at 0-1," a second fumed. As a third posted: "Amorim this is on you!"
And another added: "Surely the coach’s plan had to change the moment the other team became one man down. Amorim stood there and did nothing!"
The moment of the match didn't involve a single United player as Gueye - literally and figuratively - saw red.
Idrissa Gueye of Everton receives a red card for a disagreement with Michael Keane of Everton during the Premier League match between Manchester United and Everton at Old Trafford on November 24, 2025 in Manchester, England.

Just over ten minutes into the clash, after a Manchester United attack that had seen Bruno Fernandes go close, Gueye and Michael Keane squared off following a disagreement.
Keane and Gueye locked horns as the Senegalese midfielder was then seen raising his hand to his team-mate and striking him across the face. "He has snapped," Gary Neville said on Sky Sports commentary.
"He has slapped his own team-mate! There is not much in it..." Jordan Pickford had play peacemaker as he dragged Gueye away from his other team-mate.
It harkened back to an incident between Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer back in 2005.
