Manchester United fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford against Everton in a game that Ruben Amorim will feel his side needed to win.
The result leaves the Red Devils sitting 10th in the Premier League table after results around the league saw Bournemouth, Brighton and Crystal Palace leapfrog them.
By the 13th minute, United found themselves with a man advantage after Idrissa Gana Gueye was shown red for an act of violent conduct on his own teammate, following an argument with Michael Keane.
This did not deter the Toffees from progressing forward, as the visitors took the lead on the half-hour mark, via a strike from the edge of the box by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
Despite having an hour of game time to turn it around, the Red Devils were unable to breach Everton's defence, who claimed a memorable victory at the Theatre of Dreams.
Here are the player ratings for this disappointing display by the Red Devils:
Senne Lammens - 5.5
The Belgian did not have too much to do over the 90 minutes. However, in the one big moment, that being Dewsbury-Hall's goal, the shot stopper could have arguably done better. He did get a touch on the ball, but it was not enough to guide it away from danger.
Leny Yoro - 7.5
The Frenchman was United's best defender by some distance against Everton. Both his close-range passing and long balls were highly accurate. On the whole, he was reasonably solid as the centre-back continues to prove that he is the future of the Red Devils' backline.
Matthijs de Ligt - 7
The Dutchman had a reasonably straightforward night in the backline after Everton's red card limited their attacks. He only won 50% of his aerial duels over the 90 minutes and will be ruing a chance in injury time, which he could not get enough power behind.
Luke Shaw - 6.5
Defensively, it was a reasonably good display for Luke Shaw. However, the big problem lay in his crossing accuracy on the night. The Englishman did not complete any of his four crosses, which was disappointing considering some of the positions he found himself in.
Noussair Mazraoui - 6
The wing-back's passing was very accurate, but where he lacked against Everton was in the attacking department. The Moroccan found himself in advanced areas rather frequently but did not make the most of this, failing to complete a single cross. Not his finest night in red as Mazraoui was substituted at half-time.
Casemiro - 6
Casemiro was ineffective on the whole, as the Brazilian struggled to gain the ascendancy in midfield areas, even after the freak red card that saw Everton reduced to ten men. He was accurate in his passing and fired two efforts, both from the edge of the box, neither of which hit the target.
Bruno Fernandes - 6.5
As usual, United's captain was composed and comfortable in his passing. He did create a couple of chances, but would have likely wanted to be more efficient in this department, given his side had a man advantage. His long balls were the highlight of his passing range on the night, completing six of the seven attempted.
Patrick Dorgu - 5.5
Much like his fellow wing-back, Dorgu failed to service United's frontline with the effectiveness he would have hoped for. The Dane was also unable to register a successful cross, whilst his one effort of the evening was wide of the mark. It was a tough night for Dorgu, who was substituted in the 58th minute.
Bryan Mbeumo - 6
It was not really Mbuemo's night at Old Trafford as he failed to impact the scoreline on this occasion. His chances were limited to long distances or poor angles, only testing Pickford once. The 26-year-old's crossing improved as the evening progressed, but ultimately failed to alter the outcome of this encounter.
Amad Diallo - 7
Diallo looked the most threatening of United's frontline, testing Pickford himself, whilst also creating opportunities for teammates. The Ivorian created the most chances of any player in the match, showing his effectiveness against the Toffees. He was also impressive when carrying the ball forward, completing the most dribbles of anyone.
Joshua Zirkzee - 6.5
Zirkzee had the job of filling in for the injured Benjamin Sesko, but lacked presence at times when United progressed forward. Had a couple of good attempts, one of which would have gone in if it were not for an instinctive save by Jordan Pickford. He lacked the positioning of a true number nine at times, operating slightly deeper than Sesko possibly would have.
Substitutes:
Mason Mount - 6
The Englishman was not overly threatening for the time he played, but did fire one attempt narrowly wide that had Pickford slightly concerned. Needed to be more clinical in front of goal, when the opportunities came his way.
Diogo Dalot - 6
Dalot's substitution looked like a strange decision by Ruben Amorim, considering the Red Devils were in need of a goal. He fulfilled his duties effectively, but did not pose a threat going forward.
Kobbie Mainoo - 6
A change welcomed by the Old Trafford faithful, Mainoo did not have much of an influence on proceedings. The Englishman was present on a couple of occasions in the Everton box, but could not impact play.
