Packers need much more from struggling former first-round pick

Former Packers first-round draft choice Jordan Morgan is hovering dangerously close to the dreaded “bust” label, and his play of late isn’t doing him or Green Bay any favors.

Sunday afternoon against the Minnesota Vikings was yet another low water mark for the former Arizona standout, chosen No. 25 overall by the Packers, in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Jordan Morgan was Packers’ lowest graded player vs. Vikings

Green Bay guard Zach Tom (50) and offensive tackle Jordan Morgan (77) team p to blocks Arizona Cardinals defensive end L.J. Collier (91) during the third quarter of their game Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Green Bay Packers beat the Arizona Cardinals 34-13.

Sunday against the Vikings, Pro Football Focus listed Morgan as one of the Packers’ lowest graded players, with a meager 38.9 overall mark.

“Morgan, who rotated at right guard with Belton,” Zach Kruse writes for PackersWire. “Warned the team’s lowest run-blocking grade at 35.5, although he did have seven clean pass protection snaps.”

This season has not gone the way Morgan or Green Bay would have hoped or expected after calling his name in the first round in 2024.

Through the first 11 games, Morgan has a 56.2 overall grade from PFF, 53rd among guards, while allowing two sacks and 20 pressures in 330 pass blocking snaps.

Green Bay has faced some major uncertainty at guard and if Morgan is going to seize that starting job, he’s going to need to start playing at a significantly higher level than he’s shown, so far.
