San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings punched Carolina Panthers safety Tre'von Moehrig as the team shook hands following San Francisco's 20-9 win. Moehrig appeared to punch Jennings in the groin on a running play late in the game.

The 49ers wideout, after being temporarily stunned, stood up after the hit and glared in the direction of the Panthers' safety. He then stumbled again in pain and was helped up by teammate Trent Williams. It's unclear why Moehrig punched Jennings with the game already out of reach. Carolina's defense started strong, intercepting San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy three times in the first half to keep the score close.

This isn't the on-field skirmish Jennings has ended up in: he was tangled with Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold in a cagey matchup during a 2024 Monday Night Football meeting.

Jennings needed to be restrained by 49ers staffers and teammates alike after hitting Moehrig. He was shoved outside of the handshake circle before he was eventually shoved to the ground.

Both players are in line to be either suspended or fined for their actions, just like Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch was for his actions against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football earlier this season.

The fight dampened a strong performance by Jennings, who caught five passes for 41 yards and a touchdown against a strong Carolina defense. Jennings caught 77 passes for 975 yards and six touchdowns last year in 15 contests.

Jennings, 28, was drafted by San Francisco in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Tennessee. He was a complementary player in his first three seasons — stepping up with a handful of key playoff catches — before emerging as arguably the team's top wideout last year.

The San Francisco defense, despite missing stars Nick Bosa and Fred Warner, held Carolina to under 250 yards of total offense. Players like Malik Mustapha, Upton Stout, JI'Ayir Brown, and other young players stepped up for defensive coordinator Robert Saleh's unit.
