Arne Slot needs to let every player know that they must earn their place in the starting XI.
The Reds have simply not been good enough this season and they need to turn things around now or it will be too late.
Not only have results been poor, but their overall performances have been nowhere near the levels they should be, with almost every player struggling.

Against PSV in the Champions League, though, they have a chance to put things right, although Slot will need to go bold in his team selection.
There is one player he very clearly needs to take out of the spotlight too, even if that does mean risking the fitness of another Liverpool player in the process.

Arne Slot must bench Ibrahima Konate for Joe Gomez
Ibrahima Konate is one Liverpool star who has had a very tough start to the new campaign, and he is getting no sympathy from fans either due to his contract situation.
However, against Nottingham Forest, he was very poor again, with his weak defending costing them once, although he was lucky it did not affect them even more.
Although those around him have also been lacklustre, his individual errors are becoming an issue, with this game perhaps time for him to be taken out of the firing line.

Slot does not have many options to choose from, but one player he could turn to is Joe Gomez, with the Englishman needing some game time.
Gomez was not fit enough to play at right-back against Forest, however, due to not training all week, but with the 28-year-old having a few days to get back up to speed, it might be worth putting him in.

It is certainly a risk due to injury concerns, but Konate has been that poor that it might be worth a try, especially as it would send the Frenchman a very clear message.
Joe Gomez can regain his regular spot in the team
When Liverpool won the league in 2020, Virgil van Dijk and Gomez were the two main centre-backs that season, and their partnership was formidable.
Since then, the Englishman has barely been able to stay fit, with fans no longer able to tell whether he still has what it takes to compete at the top level due to not being able to put a run of games together.
But now, with Liverpool’s lack of options and Konate struggling, this is his best chance to regain his spot, with top performances likely enough to see him start more often than not.
Liverpool appear frustrated at Konate’s contract situation too, meaning this will only play into Gomez’s hands, so a good outing against PSV could see his Anfield career come back to life.
