Yet somehow, Manchester United went on to lose the game 1-0.

Joshua Zirkzee
Joshua Zirkzee could have played another 900 minutes, and he still would not have managed to score a goal.
Zirkzee was particularly poor in the first half, before beginning to hit his stride as the game went on. He forced one outstanding save from Jordan Pickford with a header.
But aside from this, the Dutchman offered little. This game was a huge opportunity for him to show what he is capable of, with Benjamin Sesko out with injury.
Zirkzee was not a commanding presence in attack, and Everton’s defenders were largely comfortable with him.
He managed only five touches inside the Everton box, which simply was not enough.
Noussair Mazraoui
Noussair Mazraoui will be heading off to the African Cup of Nations next month, and on the basis of this performance, it won’t be much of a loss.
Mazraoui played in the wing-back role, and failed to offer anything going forward.
His last assist for Manchester United came in November 2024, against Bodo/Glimt, and his only other Premier League assist was in August 2024 against Brighton.
He was hooked at half-time, and it was not a surprise. Only five of his passes entered the final third. United need more from the wing-back position.
Bruno Fernandes
Manchester United’s captain continued in his central midfield role, and it continues to be a divisive selection from Ruben Amorim.
Bruno Fernandes created only two chances against 10 man Everton, and while he saw plenty of possession, with 89 passes made, too many were ineffectual.
The Portuguese maestro needs to be more efficient, and his shooting was disappointing too, with only one strike on target from five attempts.
Who was the most DISAPPOINTING Man Utd player vs Everton?
Patrick Dorgu
Patrick Dorgu was substituted midway through the second half, and it felt like he was being put out of his misery.
The Dane wasted a great chance in the first half when he slashed it wide from close range, when he needed to be more composed. He even could have squared the ball to an open Amad.
Dorgu played without intensity at both ends of the pitch, and it is becoming clear that left wing-back is a problem position for Ruben Amorim.
Dorgu was Amorim’s first signing. Diogo Dalot replaced him and he was no better either.
