Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has pointed fingers at Manchester United defender Leny Yoro for his role in Everton's goal at Old Trafford. He believes the Frenchman should be brave enough to step up and stop the opponents before they get close to the box.
Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football with Roberto Martinez, Carragher said that Yoro should have made the most of Everton being down to 10 men and come out of his line to close down Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. He also questioned Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes' part in the goal and said (via UTD District):
"I don't think Leny Yoro covers himself in glory. When we're talking about some scanning there, when you play in a back three, I think it gives you a license to go and step in. Don't forget, Everton are only playing with one striker."
"Now, the ball bypasses the two central midfield players. We've said that a lot, probably over the season at times, Casemiro and Bruno. Bruno's really attacking. Casemiro, maybe at times, lacks a little bit of pace. He has to jump. He has to go. He has to go in there."
Everton were playing with 10 men since the 13th minute after Idrissa Gana Gueye was sent off for slapping his teammate, Michael Keane. Dewsbury-Hall scored the lone goal of the game in the 29th minute from outside the box and helped the Toffees walk away with all three points at Manchester United.
Manchester United manager vows not to walk away from the club
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has admitted he is worried the club could slip back into the slump of last season. He said that Everton were the better side on the night, and his players did not show the right mindset on the pitch. He said (via GOAL):
"I think they were a better team with 11. They then worked really well with 10 men for 70 minutes. So I think we deserved to lose. We didn't play well. We didn't play with the right intensity. I know which point we are in the moment. So we are not there, not even near the point that we should be to fight for the best positions in the league."
"We have a lot to do, and we need to be perfect to win games. We were not perfect. I feel afraid of returning of this feeling of last season, that is my biggest concern. So we need to work together. We are going to work together. I'm not going."
Manchester United had the chance to jump to fifth in the table with a win, but now sit 10th, level on points with Tottenham, Everton, and Liverpool.
