How Filip Jorgensen is acting towards Chelsea staff after making just three starts this season - Fabrizio Romano

Filip Jorgensen could be on his way out of Chelsea in January despite having only arrived at the club last year.

The 23-year-old is yet to make a single appearance in the 2025/26 Premier League campaign, with Robert Sanchez being Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Jorgensen was phenomenal against Heidenheim in the Conference League last season, but he was never able to build on that performance.

Who is Chelsea’s best goalkeeper?

Ahead of a potential exit in the winter transfer window, Fabrizio Romano has shed some light on Jorgensen’s relationship with Enzo Maresca and his staff.

Filip Jorgensen still being respectful to Enzo Maresca and Chelsea staff

Jorgensen has only started three games this term, but that has not stopped him from being respectful to Maresca and the other Chelsea coaches.

Speaking about his situation on The Here We Go Podcast, Romano said: “In terms of exits, keep an eye on Filip Jorgensen. Filip Jorgensen, the goalkeeper, could leave Chelsea in the January transfer window.

“My understanding is that Filip Jorgensen is being very professional, very serious, still respecting Enzo Maresca, the staff, the club, but at the same time, he wants to play.”

If the Denmark international does depart Stamford Bridge in January, Chelsea will have to bring in a goalkeeper.

One option for Maresca could be Mike Penders, who is currently on loan at the Blues’ sister club Strasbourg.

The Belgian is having a solid season there, keeping five clean sheets in 12 Ligue 1 games this term.

Chelsea’s stance on loaning out Filip Jorgensen

Jorgensen will have to push for a permanent transfer to secure a move away from Stamford Bridge in January.

It has been reported that Chelsea are unwilling to sanction a loan deal for Jorgensen during the winter window.

From Jorgensen’s point of view, it may make sense to leave west London permanently anyway. Maresca’s trust in Sanchez means he is never going to be the team’s No.1.

As well as that, it is only a matter of time before Penders is integrated into the squad, which could mean even fewer opportunities for Jorgensen.

Penders is someone the Club World Cup winners have a lot of belief in. At 20, he has so much potential and is very likely to be their No.1 in the near future.
