Idrissa Gueye has broken his silence after receiving a red card for striking Everton teammate Michael Keane during the Toffees' 1-0 win over Manchester United on Monday night. The Senegalese midfielder lashed out at the defender early in the match at Old Trafford, but David Moyes' side were still able to manoeuvre an impressive Premier League victory on the road.
The ugly scenes forced both Jordan Pickford and Iliman Ndiaye to intervene quickly, holding the 36-year-old back to prevent the situation from escalating. Since referee Tony Harrington dismissed Gueye for violent conduct, it now remains to be seen whether he will face further punishment beyond the usual one or two-game suspension.
Everton's win against all odds ended the Red Devils' five-game unbeaten run and earned Moyes his first victory as a visiting manager at Old Trafford. Now, Gueye has apologised for his wild actions.

The former Leicester City and Paris Saint-Germain ace has now taken to social media to apologise to Everton fans. He has taken “full responsibility” for his actions and attempted to make peace with everyone involved in the incident through a 60-word statement. He wrote on Instagram (see below):
“I want to apologise first to my teammate Michael Keane. I take full responsibility for my reaction. I also apologise to my teammates, the staff, the fans and the club. What happened does not reflect who I am or the values I stand for. Emotions can run high, but nothing justifies such behaviour. I’ll make sure it never happens again. UTT.”
Gueye isn’t the first player to be sent off in the Premier League for fighting with a teammate, but he is the first of that kind since Ricardo Fuller clashed with Andy Griffin for Stoke City in December 2008.
It’s proof once again that not all teams are filled with harmony, and perhaps Gueye and Keane may end up on the list of teammates who openly disliked each other.
The Toffees Manage To Pull Off a Stunning Victory
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall celebrates scoring against Man United
Despite being reduced to 10 men, Everton were the ones who took the lead through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who beat goalkeeper Senne Lammens with a fantastic curling effort. His 29th-minute strike proved to be the difference, as Bruno Fernandes and co. struggled to make the most of their numerical advantage, missing a series of golden chances.
The result leaves Man United, Everton, and Liverpool all level on 18 points after 12 games, with all three clubs likely disappointed not to be closer to the European qualification places. Nevertheless, just four points separate Manchester City in third from the champions in 12th, and with so little football played so far, anything can still happen between now and the end of a congested festive period.
