World Cup 2026 chances drastically improve for player ahead of signing for Chelsea

The talent Chelsea possess in their first team squad means that they are going to be seeing a large number of their players in action at the 2026 World Cup.

After Enzo Maresca led his side to Club World Cup glory last summer, there will be some Chelsea players going up against each other this time around, with elimination potentially on the line.

Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo could meet in the group stages after it was determined that Ecuador would be in Pot Two for the World Cup.

There are some individuals who are on the cusp of making it with their nation just in time. Thomas Tuchel is set to talk to Liam Delap about what he needs to do to make it into the England squad.

Emanuel Emegha’s World Cup chances improve after terrible Joshua Zirkzee showing

Another striker who is on the brink is Emanuel Emegha, who is set to move to Chelsea at the end of the season from Strasbourg.

He was named in the Netherlands squad in the most recent international break, ahead of Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee.

After a rough run this season at Old Trafford, he was handed a start last night, however missed a plethora of chances and failed to impress in their 1-0 defeat against 10 men.

Zirkzee is going to need to put in some serious performances to earn his place back in the side, although while he is not the chances will only continue to improve for Emegha.

How Emegha got on in first Netherlands appearances

Emegha came off the bench in both of Netherlands’ fixtures during the last international break, the first time he had done so in his career.

Dutch media praised Emegha for his performance on debut, however he missed a number of big chances in his second showing.

Injuries have disrupted his start to the 2025/26 campaign. He has only managed six Ligue 1 appearances, scoring four goals in that time.

Fans of the French side are not keen on him for jumping ship to the BlueCo partner club, but while he has the backing of Liam Rosenior he is set to continue earning minutes until he departs.
