Slot told what Klopp has over him 'as Liverpool turn to Nagelsmann'

London Standard

Jamie Carragher has explained the key difference between under-pressure Arne Slot and club legend Jurgen Klopp, as the Reds are linked with interest in Julian Nagelsmann.

Slot, who lifted the Premier League trophy in May, is facing question marks over his future at Anfield after overseeing six league defeats in the last seven games.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher said: “To win a league title in your first season is pretty special, but I have the feeling [Slot] doesn’t have the unconditional love and support like Jurgen Klopp always had.

“Jurgen Klopp had a couple of ropey moments in his time – at one stage he lost six games in a row at Anfield in the league… but at no stage did that ever feel like people were talking about Jurgen Klopp’s position the same way people have been speaking about Arne Slot’s position over the weekend.

“It’s the nature of the beast, he’s the manager of one of the biggest clubs in the world, but for me there should be no talk or thought of this manager being out of a job this season.”

Klopp approved Slot's appointment as his successor, ahead of the latter's arrival in 2024, but is now reportedly lending a helping hand in another succession plan.

According to reports, Germany head coach Nagelsmann remains of interest at Anfield despite the impending 2026 World Cup next summer, and a future move to the Reds has not entirely been ruled out.

There is no talk of any immediate pressure on Slot's job.

A move for Nagelsmann either this season or after the World Cup could, in turn, see Klopp appointed by Germany.
