Opinion: Chelsea have to make superstar signing even if it means selling Alejandro Garnacho or Jamie Gittens

Enzo Maresca will be very happy with his left-wing options following Chelsea’s acquisitions of Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens in the summer.

Gittens recently registered his first assist in the Premier League for Chelsea, setting up Pedro Neto’s goal against Burnley last Saturday.

Both 21 years of age, the England Under-21 international and Garnacho have a lot of potential.

Who is Chelsea’s best winger?

However, that and the fact that Chelsea just signed the pair should not stop the Club World Cup winners from making a move for Vinicius Junior in 2026.

Chelsea should make move for Vinicius Junior amid Real Madrid uncertainty

According to The Athletic, Vinicius has informed Real Madrid that he does not want to renew his contract amid his strained relationship with manager Xabi Alonso. It is a situation that Chelsea should look to take advantage of.

Vinicius’ current deal expires in 2027. It means that if the Brazilian refuses to put pen to paper on a new one soon, Real Madrid could be forced to sell him. All things considered, he would obviously be a terrific signing for Chelsea or any other top European club.

Vinicius is a world-class forward who can score and create goals. Since arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu, the 25-year-old has bagged 111 goals and provided 87 assists in 339 appearances, which is an excellent record.

Ultimately, Vinicius would be a vast upgrade on Garnacho and Gittens. If it is possible to land the Brazil international, he should be snapped up, even at the expense of one of the two.

The Chelsea Chronicle understands that Chelsea have looked at Vinicius before and have kept him on their radar.

How Vinicius Junior, Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens all compare

This season, Vinicius has scored five goals and provided four assists in 13 La Liga appearances. He has developed into a truly productive forward.

In contrast, Garnacho has recorded three goal contributions in the current Premier League campaign, while Gittens’ assist in the Burnley win is his only goal involvement in the English top flight. However, Vinicius has played significantly more minutes than the two.

Last season, though, the Real Madrid superstar was also the superior player in multiple areas.

All in all, Vinicius would be a marquee signing that would make Chelsea title challengers in the 2026/27 campaign. Should he become available, Todd Boehly and the other Chelsea owners have to go all out for his signature.
