Brighton loan watch: Ferguson scores for Roma as Buonanotte’s Chelsea struggles continue

It’s been a mixed week for Brighton loan players. Evan Ferguson scored his first competitive Roma goal against Jeremy Sarmiento’s Cremonese, while Andrew Moran was knocked out of the MLS Cup Playoffs and Facundo Buonanotte failed to make the bench for Chelsea.

The Brighton Base takes a closer look at these players and how the other Brighton loanees performed in the last week…

Evan Ferguson (AS Roma): vs. Cremonese

Scored a goal for Roma in the Giallorossi’s 3-1 win over Cremonese. It was the Irishman’s first goal for the Serie A club and his first appearance since suffering an ankle injury against Parma last month. Roma fans are hoping this can be a fresh start for Ferguson, after media in Italy reported that the club were considering whether to terminate his loan.

Matt O’Riley (Marseille): vs. Nice

Played 21 minutes from the bench in Marseille’s 5-1 win over Nice. The Danish international was brought on with Marseille already up 4-1 to help his side hold on to a comfortable victory. The midfielder continues to impress the Ligue 1 outfit, who are reportedly keen to open talks over a permanent transfer in January.

Igor Julio (West Ham): vs. Bournemouth

Played all 90 minutes of West Ham’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth. The Brazilian has been given a new lease on life since Nuno Espírito Santo took over the London club. Saturday’s match was Igor’s first start as a Hammer and he has now played three straight matches for the club, having played just one minute in his first two months under Graham Potter.

Facundo Buonanotte (Chelsea): vs. Burnley

Was left out of the squad in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Burnley. The 20-year-old has still only played one Premier League match for the Blues, but he has been a regular for Enzo Maresca’s team in the Europa League.

Malick Yalcouye (Swansea City): vs. Bristol City

Was an unused substitute in Swansea City’s 3-0 loss to Bristol City. The Ivorian has not featured for the Swans since receiving a red card against QPR on 22 October.

Ibrahim Osman (Auxerre): vs. Lyon

Played just two minutes in Auxerre’s 0-0 draw with Lyon.

James Beadle (Birmingham City): vs. Norwich City

The goalkeeper unexpectedly played the full 90 minutes of Birmingham City’s 4-1 win over Norwich City. An injury forced Beadle to withdraw from the England U21 team during the last international window. Against Norwich, he made seven saves, but also made an error leading to the Canaries’ sole goal.

Eiran Cashin (Birmingham City): vs. Norwich City

Did not play against Norwich. The Irishman has seemingly fallen out of favour at Birmingham. He was a regular substitute in September, but he has now not played for the Blues in over a month.

Jeremy Sarmiento (Cremonese): vs. Roma

Was an unused substitute in Cremonese’s 3-1 loss to Roma. Sarmiento is yet to start for the Serie A club this season.

Andrew Moran (LAFC): vs. Vancouver Whitecaps

Played 75 minutes for LAFC in their penalty shootout loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps. Moran came on at half-time and played the full second half, plus extra time. The Irishman scored a penalty in the shootout, but his teammates were less clinical from the spot. With LAFC out of the MLS Cup Playoffs, Moran’s time in MLS is over. He is expected to return to Brighton in January.

Carl Rushworth (Coventry City): vs. West Brom

Started in goal for Coventry City in their 3-2 win over West Brom. Despite conceding two goals on Saturday and five overall in his last five matches, Rushworth leads the Championship in clean sheets with seven. Former Seagull Jayson Molumby, playing for West Brom, received a red card in the match.

Amario Cozier-Duberry (Bolton Wanderers): vs. Bradford City

Played all 90 minutes of Bolton Wanderers’ 0-0 draw with Bradford City. The Englishman created one chance, but failed to convert any of his four shots in what was a rare poor performance from the winger. Cozier-Duberry currently has the most goal contributions in League One, with six goals and six assists in 16 matches.

Yoon Do-young (Excelsior Rotterdam): vs. Ajax

Was not included in the Excelsior squad for their 2-1 win over Ajax on Saturday. The South Korean winger has played just 19 minutes of league football since August.

Kamari Doyle (Reading): vs. Rotherham United

Started and played all 90 minutes of Reading’s 1-1 draw with Rotherham United.

Mark O’Mahony (Reading): vs. Rotherham United

Played 29 minutes as a substitute for Reading against Rotherham. The Irishman missed a good chance inside the box late on, but otherwise did not make much of an impact.

Caylan Vickers (Barnsley): vs. Luton Town

Played 12 minutes from the bench for Barnsley in the Tykes’ 5-0 win over Luton Town.

Jacob Slater (Harrogate Town): vs. Walsall

Played all 90 minutes of Harrogate Town’s 2-0 loss to Walsall in League Two. The 20-year-old left-back has now lost five matches in a row for the Sulphurites.
