Manchester United and Chelsea ahead of tussle for midfielder–United contact in place

Chelsea and Manchester United have RB Leipzig’s Assan Ouédraogo on their agenda.

That’s according to Sky Deutschland, and their title says Chelsea and Manchester United want the midfielder.

Ouédraogo’s performances for Leipzig were rewarded with a first call-up from Germany earlier this month. He made his debut for the national team and scored in the Bundesliga side’s win over Werder Bremen at the weekend.

His rise has seen him draw attention from several clubs, including clubs in the Premier League.

Sky have found that the ‘interest is becoming more concrete’, and Chelsea and the Red Devils are immediately mentioned. It’s claimed the two English clubs are monitoring the 19-year-old closely.

Manchester United’s interest isn’t new as they reportedly made approach before he joined Leipzig from Schalke in June 2024. The Germany international has a contract until 2029 and it doesn’t include a release clause.

Leipzig are set to decide the price and are said to be looking for a potential transfer next summer. Sky claim a deal is ‘only realistic if there’s a top offer’, without specifying the demand.

Ouédraogo, for his part, aims to finish the season at Leipzig to his maintain hope of making it to the World Cup.

Sky’s title says Chelsea and Manchester United ‘want’ him, but it isn’t concretely backed up within the report. Leipzig may have used these two clubs to send a message via Sky to his potential suitors.
