November 25 – Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has apologised for confronting a TV cameraman during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Newcastle.
A frustrated Guardiola confronted a television cameraman on the pitch, waving him away as he tried to film City’s dejected journey back to the dressing room at the final whistle. Moments later, he was bending the ear of referee Samuel Barrott and Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimarães.
Speaking on Monday, Guardiola said: “I feel embarrassed, ashamed when I see it. I don’t like it. I apologised after one second to the cameraman.
“I am who I am. After 1,000 games I’m not a perfect person, I make huge mistakes. It’s not about that. What is for sure, I defend any team and my club, that’s for sure. The reason why is I want to defend my team and my club.”
Defending his team is one thing. Letting your frustration spill over is another. Guardiola has navigated pressure before, but City’s season has been a little topsy-turvy as wins have been followed by inexplicable losses.
Guardiola knows the cameras will be on him again this weekend. And this time, he’ll want his players to be the story, and not his behaviour.
