Director on contact with Manchester City for transfer – Decision paused until January

Manchester City are set to face Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League at the Etihad on Tuesday.

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes has confirmed they will hold talks with Manchester City over Claudio Echeverri’s situation. Bild have relayed his comments.

Echeverri arrived at Manchester City in January and found it hard to get regular game time under Pep Guardiola.

Last summer, the Premier League side allowed the 19-year-old to join Bayer Leverkusen on a season-long loan deal.

The move hasn’t worked out well, with only 240 minutes from eight matches. The attacking midfielder has made one start in the Bundesliga this season.

On November 13th, Olé reported the Argentine wants to return to River Plate in the winter market.

Two days later, Bild stated Guardiola is annoyed with the Manchester City owned player’s situation at Bayer Leverkusen. They also explained the clubs are set to decide whether to cut short his loan stay.

Rolfes has confirmed talks about Echeverri but insists it’s too early to make a decision for January.

“I’m in frequent contact with City. We have a very good relationship. That’s why we’re not just exchanging information about this game. Of course, we all hoped that Claudio would play more and regain his fitness more quickly after his injury in the summer,” he said.

“There’s no question that we’ll discuss his situation. But it’s still open, and Claudio is with us for now. That’s the current situation. And there’s no reason to make a decision about it right now.”
