Jamie Carragher says there's something different Mo Salah needs to start doing off-the-pitch at Liverpool

Mohamed Salah has been under the spotlight this season for the first real time in his Liverpool career.

The Reds have had a terrible start to their title defence, with their chances of retaining the Premier League all but over in November.

Performances have been way off the levels they need to be and almost every player has looked way off their best, none more so than Salah.

The Egyptian has scored just four goals in the league and he has come under fire for his lack of defensive work-rate, but now he is starting to be questioned off the pitch too.

And Jamie Carragher has admitted there is one thing he would like to see him do differently, with the former Reds picking up on a common trend.

Jamie Carragher wants Mohamed Salah to do post-match interviews when times are tough

Last season, there was a lot of chatter around Salah due to his contract situation, with it feeling like every week he was being asked about it.

He was always relatively happy to talk about it, though, and he spoke about it well too, showing how he can be a leader and navigate tricky situations well.

This season, however, Carragher has noticed that he has not spoken up during this tough period, with this something he thinks needs to change going forward.

“I must say on the back of all these Liverpool defeats, it’s always Virgil van Dijk who comes out,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.

“The captain should do that but there should be other players in that dressing room coming out and speaking for the club.

“A year ago, Mo Salah wasn’t shy in coming out and speaking about his own situation, about the club not offering him a contract.

“I only ever hear Salah speak when he gets man of the match or he needs a new contract.

“I’d like to see Mo Salah come out as one of the leaders, one of the legends of Liverpool, come out and speak for the team. It shouldn’t always be the captain.”

Mohamed Salah usually does the talking with his feet

Salah might be part of Liverpool’s leadership group, but it is clear that on the pitch, he is not the most vocal.

However, in the past, he could get away with this as he would let his feet do the talking, with the winger leading the team forward with goals and assists.

But now these have dried up, he is starting to be questioned a lot more, which is why post-match interviews are something he might need to start doing.

Virgil van Dijk does them so well and shows his leadership qualities every time he talks, but now it might be Salah’s turn to give the Dutchman a bit of a break.
