Rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders played well in his first NFL start on Sunday, leading the Cleveland Browns to a 24-10 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
President Donald Trump was apparently following along during the game and praised Sanders for his play on Monday.
During the 2025 NFL Draft, as Sanders slid to the fifth round, Trump questioned if NFL owners were “stupid” and demanded that Sanders “be ‘picked’ IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN.”
After Sheduer Sanders completed 11 of 20 passes for 209 yards and a touchdown on Sunday, Trump took a victory lap.
“Shedeur Sanders was GREAT,” [Trump posted](https://x.com/PolymarketBlitz/status/1992973741463310575?s=20) on Truth Social on Monday. “Wins first game, career start, as a pro (for Cleveland). Great genes. I TOLD YOU SO!”
The former Colorado star slipped to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft after being projected as a first-round pick by most throughout the pre-draft process.
Sanders completed 74 percent of his passes in 2024 for the Buffaloes, throwing for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns, while being named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.
Despite that, quarterbacks Cam Ward, Jaxson Dart, Tyler Shough, Jalen Milroe and Dillon Gabriel were all drafted ahead of him.
Gabriel, who was also drafted by the Browns, had been starting ahead of Sanders before missing this past week’s game while in concussion protocol.
Gabriel has now been cleared to play but it’s Sanders who has been named the starter for Sunday’s game against the 49ers.
