Liverpool’s summer window saw plenty of attacking reinforcements arrive, with many Reds fans now critiquing the fact that the defense depth was not given the same priority.
The £450 million window saw the likes of Florian Wirtz and forwards in Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak make big-money moves, but it seems that another attacking option was keen on joining Anfield.
Fabrizio Romano reported over the summer that Liverpool had serious interest in PSG winger Bradley Barcola, with the Frenchman seen as an alternative if Alexander Isak could not be signed.
And now, it seems that Barcola himself was open to the move to Merseyside.
Reliable French journalist Fabrice Hawkins has reported that 23-year-old “seriously considered” a potential switch to Arne Slot’s side:
“The question was raised. It didn’t get much media attention because the club handled it well,” Hawkins began as quoted by Le10Sport.
“In terms of communication, it’s a masterclass. They managed to defuse something that could have caused more of a stir.”
“Barcola asked himself some real questions. He was performing well, then they put Kvara [Khvicha Kvaratskhelia] in front of him and he became a starter. Then there’s the emergence of [Désiré] Doué. Little things like that frustrate a player.”
“Bayern Munich and Liverpool made very strong approaches. He seriously considered it. The contract extension situation will need to be followed closely.”
Bradley Barcola’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain runs until 2028, but the French giants are eager to extend his deal by a further two years amid interest from the aforementioned clubs.
However, negotiations have reached an impasse, with Barcola and his representatives yet to agree terms on a renewal.
PSG signed Barcola from Ligue 1 rivals Lyon in 2023 for around £43million, and it’s fair to say they will want much more than that to part ways with him.
