One of Arsenal and Tottenham's reported January targets is being heavily pursued by Premier League rivals Liverpool
Liverpool have reportedly held ‘concrete talks’ as they look to sign Arsenal and Tottenham target Antoine Semenyo in the January transfer window.
However, Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has now provided an update on the winger’s future - and it could be bad news for Arsenal and Tottenham.
He said on X: “Understand Liverpool are seriously working on Antoine Semenyo for the winter window, and concrete talks have already taken place. LFC are fully aware of his release clause of around €70 million.
“Liverpool want him, but there is heavy competition, with other top English sides involved. Bayern are currently not in the race. The 25 y/o versatile winger is under contract with Bournemouth until 2030.”
Semenyo has been one of the stand-out players in the Premier League so far this season. He has scored six goals and provided three assists in 11 games.
Arsenal are in a strong position after 12 games as they sit six points clear of second-placed Chelsea. The Gunners have scored 24 goals - the joint-most in the division - and conceded just six. They are already strong favourites to lift their first Premier League title since 2004. Their need for a new attacker is far from urgent - especially with first-choice right-winger Bukayo Saka in talks over a new deal.
Meanwhile, Spurs have been less impressive than their North London rivals and lost 4-1 to the Gunners on Sunday afternoon. Thomas Frank’s side are in need of a more decisive attacking threat and it is something Semenyo could offer them.
Liverpool themselves have had a torrid start to the campaign and will need reinforcements to help get their season back on track. Semenyo is certainly in demand and Liverpool look to be doing what they can to secure the coveted winger before any of their rivals.
