Liverpool hoping to sign Premier League star in January

Liverpool will hope to put their Premier League struggles behind them when they face PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Arne Slot’s side have lost six of their last seven games in the league, despite crushing to the title last term, and now languish in 11th place in the top flight standings.

In Europe, however, the Reds have been more impressive, sitting eighth in the 36-team group phase table having won three of their four games so far.

Victory against PSV on Tuesday would move Liverpool a step closer to automatic qualification for the knockout phase of the competition, but their dismal recent home form will worry Slot and their supporters.

Away from the action, it appears that Liverpool are hoping to sign a Premier League star in January in a bid to arrest their struggles.

According to Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool are working hard in an attempt to complete the signing of Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo in January.

He claims that the Reds are aware that the player has a release clause set at around £61 million in his current contract, however they will face stiff competition in the race to land the forward.

Semenyo, 25, has scored 28 goals and provided 13 assists in 101 games for the Cherries across all competitions, having joined the club from Bristol City back in 2023.

The Ghana international was linked with a move away from the south coast over the summer, but instead signed a new contract with Bournemouth that is set to expire in 2030.

Plettenberg claims that Liverpool have already held concrete talks in an effort to agree a deal for Semenyo, who has been in particularly impressive form this season.

So far this term the Ghanaian has scored six goals and registered three assists in 11 Premier League games.

His versatility could also appeal to Liverpool, as he is capable of playing in a number of attacking roles including on either flank or centrally.
