Michael Owen has revealed why he thinks the Premier League title is still 'within reach' for Liverpool despite their dreadful run of form.
Arne Slot's men have slumped to 12th in the table after losing six of their last seven league games, most recently suffering a 3-0 humiliation at Anfield against Nottingham Forest.
Saturday's defeat means the defending champions, who splashed around £450million on summer recruits, are already a whopping 11 points behind pacesetters Arsenal.
But former Reds striker Owen, 45, believes his old side have shown enough to demonstrate they could, although unlikely, mount an extraordinary comeback to raise the title again next May.
'It's likely they'll miss out, but I still think it's within reach,' Owen told the Mennie Talks Podcast. 'I mean they played really poorly against Manchester City, but they have put in performances this season that took your breath away.
'I mean, that performance against Real Madrid, I know it was only 1-0, but it could have been 4-0. I mean, they were absolutely brilliant. For a half against Villa, they were brilliant. They beat Arsenal at Anfield. They're not playing badly consistently.

'I look at the teams that they got beat against, they got beat against Manchester United, but Liverpool were the best team. They got beat against Chelsea, it was in the last kick of the game, it could have gone either way. It was a great game, they played well. They got beat against Man City at the Etihad.'
'It's not like they're getting beaten by mugs all the time.'
Owen, however, did admit that there have been issues with consistency in the side and that the Reds' 1-0 defeat away to Galatasaray in the Champions League was an especially 'poor performance'.
'I'm not dressing it up, they're not consistent. They're not at their best, but it's not like they're playing badly,' the former Ballon d'Or winner continued.
'You can still see they're a great team in patches, in certain games. It's just the consistency.
'They're not out of it yet. They're playing well enough in patches, in certain games, to suggest that they can go on a big run. They just need that consistency. They've got to get a wriggle on.'

Despite his more upbeat view on Slot's side, Owen admitted that he thinks the title will most likely be heading to Arsenal's trophy cabinet come the end of the season.
'I think they're quite a consistent team,' he said. 'I've been quite baffled actually by the way people talk about them.
'People talk about it as if every Premier League team comes from last one year and wins it the next. Leicester did. Man City have won loads of titles. How many times did they come second or third before they won it? Liverpool have won two titles in the last six years or whatever it is. How many times did they come second before that?
'Now, it's Arsenal's turn. They’ve come second three times. No one just goes and wins it.
'Arsenal last year, they did better than any other British team in the Champions League. Got to the semi-finals of the Champions League. Came second in the league. They were absolutely brilliant all season. They've got more points in the last three years than any team in the Premier League.'
