Liverpool are reportedly pursuing a deal to bring Antoine Semenyo to Anfield for substantial money during the January transfer window. The Reds have reportedly held 'concrete talks' regarding a winter move as they battle through a difficult Premier League campaign.
Arne Slot's side invested over £450million on players, including Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, during the summer, yet have suffered defeat in six of their previous seven top-flight encounters. It seems further investment will be prioritised in January as they attempt to salvage their season.
Semenyo has a contract with Bournemouth until 2030, but possesses a release clause valued at up to £65million, which becomes active in January, following his contract extension at the conclusion of last season.
Liverpool are reportedly targeting this clause, according to Sky Sports Germany.
The Merseyside outfit will encounter competition from Manchester United, whilst Manchester City are monitoring developments.
The Ghana international is understood to have held discussions with United boss Ruben Amorim prior to penning fresh terms with the Cherries.
Semenyo has already netted six times and provided three assists across 11 appearances this campaign, though was absent for Bournemouth's draw with West Ham.
The forward's impressive displays will attract a Liverpool side languishing in 12th position, having scored only two goals across their last three fixtures.
Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola remains reluctant to discuss the possibility of Semenyo's departure at present.
"We are in November," he said last week. "Antoine is our player, he will continue being our player. In January, you can ask me about the market in January, but right now I'm not worried about the next markets.
"It's something that especially you know that I hate to talk about in August, January, the moments when the market is open, but it is not one of those moments.
"It's November. I'm more worried about the situation of the players to play tomorrow, the short-term, the things that really matter and in January, we will talk about whatever happens, the players we need. But it is not something that I'm worried about today."
Reports have indicated that Bournemouth might be more susceptible to accepting an offer for Semenyo in January, after the introduction of revised profit and sustainability regulations known as the Squad Cost Ratio.
Clubs will now be permitted to allocate 85 per cent of football revenue and net profit/loss towards player expenditure, with a multi-year provision of 30 per cent designed to encourage greater 'ambition'.
Bournemouth, Brighton, Palace and Brentford, along with Fulham and Leeds are understood to have opposed this change.
Semenyo revealed recently that he's trying to minimise speculation about his prospects.
He said: "I don't think about it too much. I try to stay present as much as I can. You see the news all the time, I see it as well, I'm not oblivious, but I try to keep focused."
