Newcastle United train ahead of Champions League tie against Marseille
Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye will miss the visit of Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday.
It’s a decision that has got the Premier League talking. Did he deserve a red or didn’t he?
Yes, of course, he hit Michael Keane, but was Idrissa Gueye’s act really worthy of a sending off? It’s something that has split opinion, not just with the public, but managers, too. Both David Moyes and particularly Ruben Amorim have claimed Tony Harrington was harsh in brandishing red.
However, an up shot, from a Newcastle United perspective, is that their weekend opponents - the Magpies travel to the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday night - will be withouth experienced Gueye for the clash, with the red card seeing the player instantly banned.
Here’s what everyone has been saying about the clash.
David Moyes on Everton red card at Manchester United
Moyes said: “We don’t [see it often] and if nothing had happened, I don’t think anybody in the stadium would have been surprised.
“I thought the referee could have maybe taken a little bit longer to think about it. Maybe just go over to sort it and have a think about it.
“I was told that the rules of the game say that if you slap even your own player or move your arm up in some way then you could be in trouble.
“But you know, there’s another side to it. I quite like my players fighting each other. Getting annoyed with each other because of a bad ball or because someone didn’t do the right action.
“I think that’s part of it. If you want a winning team or a resilience which got us that result, then you have to have players who act that way. I’m disappointed we got the sending off, but everybody will tell you, we’ve all been footballers, and they’ll tell you you can get angry with your teammates.”

Idrissa Gueye issues social media apology for Everton red card
Taking to his social media accounts, Gueye posted the following apology: "I want to apologise first to my team-mate Michael Keane. I take full responsibility for my reaction.
"I also apologise to my team-mates, the staff, the fans and the club. What happened does not reflect who I am or the values I stand for. Emotions can run high, but nothing justifies such behaviour. I'll make sure it never happens again."
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim on red card in Everton clash
It’s fair to say Manchester United boss had a surprising response when asked about the incident at Old Trafford.
He said: “Fighting is not a bad thing, it doesn’t mean they don’t like each other. I don’t agree with that sending off, we can fight with teammates.
"I hope my players, when they lose the ball, they fight each other. They cannot be a sending off, but my players show many games that we can do it. Today we didn’t manage to do it."
