Everton boss David Moyes breaks two Premier League records against his old club Man United

Everton boss David Moyes managed to get one over his former clubs Manchester United on Monday night – with a 1-0 win at Old Trafford in the most bizarre circumstances.

Everton started as the better side against Manchester United on the night, but their hopes of a win quickly diminished after Idrissa Gueye was sent off for striking his own teammate, Michael Keane.

However, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall put the Toffees 1-0 up against the run of play with a superb curling effort, and a resilient backline led by an outstanding Jordan Pickford held on to muster a win and take them above rivals Liverpool in the Premier League table.

And not only was it David Moyes’ first away win at Old Trafford in his Premier League history, but the Toffees broke another record that has stood since before the Premier League’s inception.

Everton broke a long-standing Premier League record of Manchester United’s on Monday

David Moyes managed to end his Premier League hoodoo against Manchester United on Monday, having failed to win at Old Trafford in 17 previous attempts in the top-flight prior to the 1-0 win.

However, another truly mindblowing stat has emerged that has made Everton the first team in 47 to do so.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall silences his critics

Manchester United have never lost a Premier League game at Old Trafford having faced 10 men, winning 36 and drawing 10 of their previous 46 attempts having been a man to the good.

But that all changed thanks to Idrissa Gueye’s sending off and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s wonderstrike, seeing Everton become the first side in over 33 years to achieve the feat.

It was a heroic effort from all involved and that will give the Toffees renewed confidence going forwards this season, especially with Moyes now bettering his opening tally from his first spell at Everton that saw the Toffees qualify for the Champions League.

Everton could now push on to secure European qualification

Everton’s win means that the Toffees are now 11th in the Premier League, only three points away from the Champions League spots and already being seven points clear of relegation.

The Toffees have a tough run of fixtures coming up, with Newcastle, Bournemouth, Chelsea and Arsenal all coming in their next five.

But spirited displays such as the one they produced at Old Trafford means that they’ll be confident going into a number of those clashes.

An easier fixture list is on the horizon heading into the New Year and if the Toffees can keep the pace until that point, there is every chance they could muster a place in Europe for the first time in eight years.
