Liverpool confirm injury 'blow' for PSV Eindhoven as six players absent from training

Liverpool 0-3 Nottingham Forest: Match Review

Florian Wirtz and Conor Bradley injury latest as several things spotted from Liverpool training ahead of the Champions League clash against PSV.

Liverpool have been put through their paces ahead of tomorrow's Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven.

Pressure has started to mount on head coach Arne Slot after the Reds suffered a sixth Premier League loss in seven games last weekend. The reigning champions suffered a resounding 3-0 reverse at the hands of Nottingham Forest at Anfield, meaning their title defence is over before December. Liverpool trail Arsenal by 11 points.

Therefore, it is imperative that Slot engineers a turnaround, starting against PSV. To their credit, Liverpool have hit the required standards in the Champions League and can take another step towards qualifying for the last 16 of the competition.

The Reds hosted an open training session ahead of the encounter. Unsurprisingly, Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong did not rub shoulders with their team-mates at the AXA Training Centre because of respective injuries. It means that Slot will not have a natural right-back yet again.

And it appears that Florian Wirtz will also be missing for successive games after being unavailable against Forest. The attacking midfielder sustained an issue representing Germany during the international break earlier this month.

Giovanni Leoni (ACL) will not play again while there is still no sign of Stefan Bajcetic or Jayden Danns (both hamstring) returning to training. Bajcetic has not been registered in Liverpool’s squad for the Champions League.

After missing some sessions last week, Joe Gomez was spotted in Kirkby. There are sections of fans who hope that Liverpool’s longest-serving player is handed a chance against PSV given the recent defence issues. The Reds have conceded 20 goals in the Premier League so far - with six being in the past two matches.

Slot’s training group was supplemented by several youngsters, including Trey Nyoni and Kaide Gordon. Calvin Ramsay, who was on the bench against Forest, has also not been registered for the Champions League but training.

Meanwhile, James Norris got a chance to rub shoulders with the first team after the 22-year-old returned from a loan spell with League of Ireland outfit Shelbourne. Norris made a total of 45 appearances for the Dublin-based side, who finished third in the table.
