Ruben Amorim and David Moyes agree on Man Utd vs Everton incident

On a bizarre night at Old Trafford, Everton ended their Premier League clash against Manchester United with ten men on the pitch, but still headed back down the M62 with all three points in the bag.

David Moyes' side battled over the line to earn a vital 1-0 victory as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's first-half strike sealed three crucial points on the road for the travelling Toffees.

However, a wonder goal from Dewsbury-Hall and a gusty showing from Everton late on were far from the main stories of the night, as Idrissa Gana Gueye was sent off on 13 minutes.

After losing club captain Seamus Coleman to injury inside the opening ten minutes, Gueye then spectacularly lost his head, as the Senegal international lashed out at teammate Michael Keane.

The pair clashed inside Jordan Pickford's penalty area after sloppy play gave United two chances in quick succession, and referee Tony Harrington was given little choice but to flash a red card at the veteran midfielder, for slapping Keane in the face.

Despite being forced to play the majority of the game with ten men, Gueye's meltdown galvanized Everton, as Dewsbury-Hall quickly fired them in front on 29 minutes.

The second half was a masterclass in defending a lead in difficult circumstances, with just 24% possession for Everton, with Pickford pulling off crucial late stops to deny Bryan Mbeumo and Joshua Zirkzee.

There were contrasting emotions for Amorim and Moyes at full-time, but the two bosses were in firm agreement on one thing - the team willing to fight won the day.

"I quite like it when my players fight with each other because it shows they care and put demands on each other. I'm disappointed he got sent off. He's apologised, praised the team and is grateful for the result. We move on," Moyes stated after the game.

The grit needed to haul themselves back into the game in the closing stages was missing for United - as Everton edged them 49 to 45 in the duels won column - and Amorim hinted his team could have done with some of Moyes' fight.

"They were the better team. We deserved to lose. 20 minutes into the game, red card for the opponent. We need to win this game no matter what," he said.

"Fighting is not a bad thing. Fighting doesn't mean they don't like each other. Fighting is that you lose the ball and think 'I will fight you because we will suffer a goal'.

"I hope my players, when they lose the ball, will fight each other."

Defeat to Everton stretches United's winless streak to three games in the Premier League, ahead of a trip to Crystal Palace on November 30. Everton host Newcastle United the day before November 29 with Moyes' men now three games unbeaten.

The Toffees will have to without Gueye for the foreseeable future, however. The Premier League hand out three-game suspensions for violent conduct.
