Former Chelsea prospect Yann Gueho is fighting for his life in intensive care following a brutal knife attack in Paris's south-eastern outskirts.

Authorities have charged a man with attempted murder in France after the horrific incident, which occurred between November 9-10.

Gueho spent two seasons at Chelsea's academy from 2009 to 2011 and was hailed as one of France's most promising young talents during his teenage years.

He later had stints with Nantes and Paris FC following his early development at Lille, though he struggled to establish himself at senior level.

The Creteil public prosecutor's office confirmed to The Athletic that a judicial inquiry commenced on November 12 following the assault, with one individual facing charges of attempted murder and gang violence, reports the Express.

A woman has also been charged with gang violence and placed under witness protection regarding the attempted murder allegation.

Both suspects remain in custody. The assault occurred in Choisy-le-Roi whilst Gueho was with a companion. The 31-year-old continues to receive treatment in intensive care at a French medical facility.

Gueho had been tipped for stardom at the highest level due to his exceptional footballing ability.

His former Chelsea youth mentor Adi Viveash reflected on the ex-player three years ago, describing him as having: "Real arrogance bordering on genius.

"Yann would nutmeg someone and then want to put it back through the other way. But it wasn't just the nutmeg. He was able to flick it up in the air, knock it over someone's head and then volley it back over their head as they went towards the ball.

"The ability to really take the mickey out of opponents, at 15, 16 years of age, was quite scary. It was like he froze players.

"He went around them, over them and through them. It was like watching a skateboarder trying different tricks. I haven't seen much like it."
