Landon Dickerson attempts to clarify comments made after Eagles' loss to Cowboys

Within 24 hours of the Philadelphia Eagles blowing a 21-point lead on the Dallas Cowboys in their 24-21 loss, everyone is slamming the coaching staff of the Eagles for their role in the game.

Those criticisms were sparked by Eagles left guard Landon Dickerson insinuating the coaching staff did not get them ready for the five-man fronts the Cowboys were running. Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni seemed to have made things worse by admitting they didn't have enough time to prepare for it.

Dickerson now seems to be doing his best Michael Jackson impersonation, moonwalking back on his comments and adding some clarity. He said the comments were clipped from a long answer, but he wanted to set the record straight that the coaching staff did not prepare them.

"I was not insinuating that the coaches did not prepare us for this game. I was just saying that it was something that, you know, when you're playing that game, you're kind of playing Vegas odds. And when we look back on it, on all the games they played, I know the week before they switched up, they run a five down front. Did a little bit. But then you look at the ten games before that, you see what they're doing. I mean, it would be great if somebody would call ahead and tell us, hey, we're going to run this defense. And then we could just focus on that."

Will Eagles fans buy into Dickerson's comments?

While Eagles fans can appreciate what Dickerson did, it won't change the view that the coaching staff didn't do their jobs. Sure, there's a ton of preparation that goes into a game, but there are bigger issues with this coaching staff.

Let's pull a Dickerson and make a clarification of our own: this is only talking about the offensive coaching staff, not Vic Fangio's crew. Injuries and some talent issues as backups play a part in the Eagles' defensive issues, so that's not entirely on Fangio.

The Eagles' coaching staff, on the other hand, has all the talent in the world and barely hit over 300 yards of offense after having 192 yards and 21 points on the first three drives of the game. To have just 147 yards and zero points the rest of the game is embarrassing.

Yes, Lane Johnson's injury played a massive role in the offense, but the Eagles' coaching staff failed to make adjustments to the injury and let the running game fumble to just 63 yards rushing. Saquon Barkley averaged 2.2 yards per carry. That should never happen.

If everyone wants to say that the Eagles didn't take their foot off the pedal like Sirianni said after the game, fine, but the coaching staff, aka Kevin Patullo, did not do their jobs well and set this offense up to fail. That's inexcusable and must be fixed before the Chicago Bears' Week 13 showdown.
