In-form Peterborough United winger Kyrell Lisbie is relishing the massive challenge of League One football.

The 21 year-old summer recruit from National League Braintree is actually joint Posh top scorer with Jimmy-Jay Morgan with five goals in all competitions this season. Lisbie has followed a quickfire hat-trick in an EFL Trophy tie win over Aston Villa with goals in the last two League One games against AFC Wimbledon and Stockport County.

All his goals have arrived in home games which is good as he has a large personal following in a London Road crowd. It helps to explain why he plays with a great big smile on his face.

Father Kevin Lisbie was a strong striker at Charlton Athletic, Ipswich Town, Leyton Orient and others, while twin brother Kyreece is enjoying a decent season with League Two side Colchester United. He’s scored six times for ‘The U’s.’

"The new manager has placed a lot of trust and faith in me for which I’m grateful,” Lisbie told the Posh Plus service. “It was difficult at the start of the season to make an impact when I was getting five or 10 minutes here and there.

"I know it’s a big challenge for me as I made a massive step up in standard. I’m relishing it though and I want to repay him, while showing the fans I can be an exciting winger.

"It’s taken longer than I expected, but I’m affecting games and playing with a smile on my face so it’s now about momentum for me. The gaffer wants wingers to get into the right place at the right time and then the ball will fall for you. I love the feeling when the ball hits the back of the net so I will always get in there.

“I want to keep my shirt so I need to keep my form up. The football we are playing is really exciting and attacking and everyone can see we have the potential to climb up the table. Where we are is not a true reflection of Peterborough United.

“Every time I walk out on the pitch I see so many familiar faces it means so much to me. My mum and dad alternate between watching me and Kyreece. One comes to my game and the other goes to the Colchester game. Kyreece and I try and get to each other’s games as well. We are all proud of each other.

"I also see lots of children I used to work with at a school come to my games which means a lot. I sometimes forget how far I’ve come, but I want to prove you can step up from non league and become a quality winger in League One.

"i will continue celebrating goals with a dance as well. Football can be very serious at times so I like to dance and make people smile.”
