Just one week after Darnell Washington set the social media world on fire by plowing through multiple Cincinnati Bengals defenders, he was at it again with another viral clip online. This time, it was for a crushing block he delivered to Chicago Bears LB Ruben Hyppolite II.
ESPN’s Get Up dedicated part of a segment to something Washington did, which seems to be a weekly occurrence now on morning television for Pittsburgh’s freakish tight end.
“Oh my goodness. Chin music. Guess what? Even when you are aware, you just got trucked. Choo Choo! All aboard the Washington Express,” Jeff Saturday said during the Sat ‘Em Down segment this morning. “Playing tight end, the man is bigger than most left tackles in the NFL. And he’s running like that. That right there should be unfair. If Rodger Goodell could put a new rule in, make a man that size, you can’t…Put a stripe on him. You can’t carry the ball no more, like peewee [football].”
Hyppolite may look small in the clip, but that’s only in comparison to Washington. He’s listed at 6-0, 236 pounds, which is very dense for his height. That didn’t matter with the Washington Express coming in motion with a running start in his direction. It was total carnage.
Mike Greenberg called Washington his “favorite player in the league.” And how can you blame him? He is must-watch TV for every snap that he’s on the field. Even when the ball isn’t in his hands, he’s liable to lay a crushing block to help pave the way for one of his teammates.
He revealed last week that his listed weight of 264 is a complete farce. We already knew that, but he made it official by telling the world that he’s 311 pounds. And that’s after he told the media that he lost 10-15 pounds to play this season.
At 6065, 311 pounds, with 34 3/8-inch arms and 11-inch hands, he is oversized in every sense of the word. If there’s one thing working with the Steelers’ offense, it’s the emergence of Washington as a star player. Now, if they could only figure out a way to get the ball in his hands more often.
