Gyokeres has missed the last three Arsenal games after suffering a hamstring injury following his goal in the 2-0 win at promoted Burnley on November 1.

Mikel Arteta suggested last week that the £64million summer signing was close to a return after he withdrew from Sweden duty during the international break, but he missed out on the squad for the north London derby thrashing of Tottenham on Sunday and was still absent from training at London Colney on Tuesday.

Havertz, meanwhile, has not featured for Arsenal since the win at Manchester United on the opening weekend of the top-flight season after undergoing surgery on a knee problem.

Gyokeres and Havertz have both been ruled out of Tuesday’s high-profile Champions League showdown with Bayern Munich, though Arteta is hopeful after further assessment that they could be in contention for Sunday’s trip to Stamford Bridge that will see first play second in the Premier League.

Arteta said: “Really good, both of them. So in the next few days they are going to have a repeat scan to see if we can push them for the weekend.”
