Chelsea signed Marc Cucurella from Brighton & Hove Albion back in 2022, and he has since become one of the best left-backs in the Premier League.
He is a crucial member of Enzo Maresca’s squad, making over 50 appearances in all competitions last season.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s game against Barcelona on Tuesday night, Maresca claimed that Cucurella gives the team an advantage every time he plays.
The Club World Cup winners will not want to lose him, but if they do, there appears to be a contingency plan.

Chelsea trying to convince Myles Lewis-Skelly to join them
Earlier this month, journalist Simon Phillips had claimed that Chelsea were making background checks on Myles Lewis-Skelly but the Arsenal defender had no interest in moving to west London. That does not look to have deterred the Blues, though.
Phillips has now shared on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea that one Arsenal source has informed him that Chelsea are now being “aggressive and bold” in their attempts to sign Lewis-Skelly.
Maresca has Cucurella, who again is one of the top left-backs in England, and Jorrel Hato.
However, there is a possibility of the former leaving Stamford Bridge in the near future, which would be a huge blow.
It explains why the Conference League holders have been looking at Lewis-Skelly.

Marc Cucurella has not ruled out Chelsea exit
Last season, Cucurella was asked about his future and the chances of him returning to Barcelona one day.
The 27-year-old came through the ranks at Barcelona before joining Getafe in 2020.
“Let’s see, never say never, right?”, Cucurella said. “I think I wouldn’t live there [in London] forever, but to stay a few more years, I’m very happy.”
As much as Chelsea admire Lewis-Skelly, for now, it does not look like the England international will be going anywhere.
However, after failing to make a single start in the Premier League this term, he may eventually have to make a decision on his future.
In an ideal world, though, Chelsea would just keep hold of Cucurella, who is one of the team’s most important players right now.
