Ruben Amorim has been extremely honest and transparent during his first year as Manchester United head coach and he has often been the first to take responsibility.
Monday’s Premier League clash against Everton was a golden opportunity for Manchester United to build on their momentum from before the November international break.
However, the Red Devils looked rusty and lethargic as they lost 1-0 to Everton at Old Trafford.
Amorim is facing criticism for failing to find a way past Everton after they were reduced to 10 men when Idrissa Gueye struck his own teammate.

Ruben Amorim accepts he made a mistake vs Everton
In the lead-up to the match, Amorim revisited his ‘storm is coming’ comments made a year ago and argued that United still have major issues to resolve.

Unfortunately, United’s weaknesses were plain to see against Everton, but Amorim was quick to take responsibility in his post-match comments.
“We need to win this game no matter what,” Amorim said.
What did you think of Ruben Amorim’s post-game comments after the loss to Everton?
“I feel afraid of returning of this feeling of last season, that is my biggest concern. So we need to work together, we are going to work together.”
“It’s about understanding the moment when the other team fight each other and get a red card.
“That is my fault, I need to be better to explain the players how to play in every situation.”
It was the first time in club history that United failed to beat 10 men at Old Trafford.
Players must accept responsibility for Everton performance
Amorim got the game plan wrong against Everton. Once the Toffees were reduced to 10 men, it was up to United to push their advantage and take control.
However, there is only so much that Amorim can do from the sidelines.
Senior players such as Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw were well below their usual standards, sloppily conceding possession and often losing duels.

United still created enough chances to take 23 shots, but the quality of finishing was nowhere near good enough.
It was a bad day all around for everyone associated with United. It is now up to Amorim and his players to prove it was only a blip.
