Liverpool injury news ahead of the Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven at Anfield.

Arne Slot has admitted that Joe Gomez required an injection in his knee as a Liverpool return is considered.

The Reds head into tomorrow’s Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven at Anfield without a recognised right-back, with Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong still injured.

For Saturday’s 3-0 defeat by Nottingham Forest, Slot opted to take Dominik Szoboszlai out of midfield and move him to the right-hand side of defence. That was partly down to Gomez’s fitness as he missed training sessions last week.

Liverpool’s longest-serving player did take part in training on the eve of the PSV game and is set to be in the squad - but there is seemingly doubt around whether Gomez can start. Asked how ready the defender is to feature, Liverpool head coach Slot replied: “He is one of five defenders we have. Normally, I wouldn’t go into detail but he had an injection last week on his knee. Apart from maybe me making the decision to play Dom, it also had to do with him not being completely fit. He is in the group for tomorrow but wasn’t able to train completely normal last week.”

However, Florian Wirtz was absent for Liverpool’s open session at the AXA Training Centre on Tuesday. The £100 million summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen was unavailable against Forest, having picked up an injury representing Germany during the international break earlier this month.
