Liverpool is already set to be without a few players for the PSV clash.
The likes of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Conor Bradley did not train on Tuesday afternoon ahead of hosting the Eredivisie side.
Now Arne Slot has revealed a fresh injury concern.
Speaking in his pre-PSV press conference, the Dutch manager has explained that that Liverpool defender Joe Gomez needed injections last week to manage pain in his knee.
“He is one of the five defenders we have.”
“He had an injection last week in the knee, that’s not normal if you don’t feel anything.”
“Apart from me making decision to play Dominik Szoboszlai in that position, it’s also to do with Joe not being completely fit.”
“He is in the group tomorrow but wasn’t able to train every single day last week.”
Joe Gomez’s lack of game time this season had become an increasingly puzzling situation for Liverpool supporters.
The versatile defender, now the club’s longest-serving player having arrived back in 2015, has been restricted to just 43 minutes of Premier League action across four brief substitute appearances.
However, with Slot’s admission it’s now clear that the lack of minutes is due to injury issues.
Calvin Ramsay, who made the bench against Forest, is not registered in Liverpool’s Champions League squad and therefore unavailable.
PSV arrive in good shape with no fresh injury concerns from their 1-0 win over NAC Breda at the weekend. Only Ruben van Bommel and Alassane Plea are unavailable for Peter Bosz’s side.
Liverpool sits eighth in the Champions League table with nine points from four matches, occupying the final automatic qualification spot for the last 16.
PSV have five points, with their sole victory being an emphatic 6-2 demolition of Italian champions Napoli at home.
