Mikel: “The atmosphere is a massive superpower”

It was a spine-tingling atmosphere at Emirates Stadium for Sunday’s north London derby.

Supporters got the atmosphere going early on outside the ground, while pre-match fireworks and a beautiful tifo set the tone for an unforgettable occasion.

Mikel Arteta was asked in his pre-Bayern Munich press conference on Tuesday if it was the best atmosphere he’s been a part of at our home.

“It has to be one of the best for sure, and the atmosphere, the energy created as well just before the game, I think it was excellent, and it makes such a difference,” he said.

With the games coming thick and fast, we’ll be needing that teriffic support again for this week’s return to UEFA Champions League football, and our manager is under no illusions about the size of the task at hand.

Bayern go into this game top of the table with four wins from four games, only ahead of us on goals scored.

“We have the same intention to win it, we've had a really good preparation again, a really short one, but we've been very efficient as well,” Mikel explained. “We know the importance of the match, we are in a really strong position, we want to maintain that for sure and we know that we have a beautiful and very demanding game ahead of us.

“For sure, this is the kind of game in the competition that we want to face, and we've been very consistent in both competitions; they have been as well, and tomorrow is a great test for us to see where we are.”
