Electric Eze, monstrous Murillo: Sports Mole's Premier League Team of the Week

The red and blue halves of London celebrated to the extreme in Premier League gameweek 12, when Arsenal and Chelsea capitalised on slip-ups from no fewer than three of their Big Six rivals.

The Gunners pummelled North London derby rivals Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 to increase their lead at the top of thePremier League table to six points, and Chelsea’s 2-0 success over Burnley means that the Blues are currently Arsenal’s closest challengers.

Manchester City have been knocked off the silver medal position as a result of their2-1 loss at Newcastle United, while Liverpool's title defence is in tatters - if it was not already - as a result of their harrowing 3-0 home defeatto Nottingham Forest.

Manchester United could hardly laugh at their rivals' misfortune, though, suffering a lowly 1-0 loss to Everton at Old Trafford, allowing Aston Villa to assume control of the race for fourth thanks to their 2-1 victory at Leeds United.

Crystal Palace remain within touching distance of the Champions League spots as a result of their 2-0 win at Rob Edwards's Wolverhampton Wanderers, as do Brighton & Hove Albion following their2-1 beating of Brentford.

However, Sunderland's European charge suffered a hit in a 1-0 loss at Fulham, and Bournemouth's plight continued in a 2-2 draw with West Ham United, where they had to fight back from 2-0 down just to claim a point.

Here, Sports Mole selects its Premier League Team of the Week for the latest round of fixtures.

Goalkeeper: Alphonse Areola (West Ham)

Snubbing Jordan Pickford - who kept a clean sheet at Old Trafford - for a man who conceded two at Bournemouth may seem inexplicable, but Alphonse Areola delivered one of the best goalkeeping displays of the season for West Ham, making an astonishing 10 saves and preventing 2.85 goals.

Oh, and he provided an assist too.

Centre-back: Nicolo Savona (Nottingham Forest)

Selecting an entire Nottingham Forest backline would have been justifiable, but Nicolo Savona is the first of just two Tricky Trees representatives in our rearguard after his fine finish, six clearances and two out of two aerial duels won.

Centre-back: Murillo (Nottingham Forest)

Ibrahima Konate replacement anyone?

One-upping Savona on the goals and clearances front, Murillo delivered a thumping drive, a sensational 13 clearances and also three blocks to the beating of Liverpool, enhancing his reputation as one of the finest defenders in the land.

Centre-back: Tosin Adarabioyo (Chelsea)

Chelsea may not have emerged from their battle with Burnley unscathed were it not for Tosin Adarabioyo, who won an excellent 10 of his 12 duels - six on the ground and four in the air - while also registering a 93% pass accuracy.

Right midfield: Harvey Barnes (Newcastle United)

No Anthony Gordon = no problem for Newcastle United and Harvey Barnes, who produced a brilliant brace to take down Man City at St James' Park, following up a calm finish with a hooked attempt from close range.

Central midfield: Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (Everton)

After Idrissa Gueye and Michael Keane had their Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer moment, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall ensured that Everton's trip to Man Utd would be remembered for the right reasons, curling home a fabulous finish to give David Moyes his first-ever win at Old Trafford as a visiting manager.

Central midfield: Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace)

A potential new face at Old Trafford next season - which Liverpool will no doubt have a thing or two to say about - Adam Wharton ran the show when Palace strode past Wolves.

The England international was directly involved in both goals - his shot led to Daniel Munoz tapping in the rebound before a crisp first-time pass into Yeremy Pino - and he customarily did the dirty work well with three interceptions and two tackles won.

⭐️ STAR PERFORMER OF THE WEEK ⭐️

Left midfield: Eberechi Eze (Arsenal)

The first-ever Premier League North London derby hat-trick. The first North London derby hat-trick of any kind for 47 years. Crisp, calm finishes with both feet. And almost a first-minute assist for Declan Rice.

Nothing more needs to be said.

Attacking midfield: Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa)

Silencing the boisterous Elland Road atmosphere, Morgan Rogers demonstrated his penalty-box prowess and set-piece specialities in equal measure against Leeds, producing a delicate near-post finish before an inch-perfect free kick to complete the Villa comeback.

Attacking midfield: Samuel Chukwueze (Fulham)

The true definition of a game-changing performance, Fulham substitute Samuel Chukwueze created five chances and two big chances off the bench against Sunderland, one of which crucially led to Raul Jimenez poking home the game's only goal.

Centre-forward: Callum Wilson (West Ham)

Have West Ham found the solution to their striker crisis?

There was never any chance of Callum Wilson not shining against his former club at the Vitality, where he firstly beat Djordje Petrovic - who in all honesty should have done better - with a powerful low strike, before hooking in a stunning volley to score a first Premier League brace in over two years.
