There was more talk about Arne Slot‘s future, with a replacement described as “nonsense,” as well as new information about Joe Gomez‘s recent fitness struggle.
Liverpool “back and support” Arne Slot
There is no shortage of talk surrounding Slot after a run of eight defeats in 11 games, but Fabrizio Romano maintains that Liverpool are “not activating any contact to replace” him.
On his podcast, he said: “My information is that Liverpool are not activating any contact to replace Arne Slot, at this stage the situation is under control; it’s complicated, difficult, an emergency situation.
“Internally, the manager and the staff are being discussed, but also giving some responsibility to the players.”

He adds that Liverpool “as a club back and support the manager.” There is surely an acceptance that will only last for so long, though!
It comes amid links to Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann on social media, with claims even going as far as saying Jurgen Klopp was pushing the idea.
The Mail‘s Dominic King took to X, however, to describe that particular claim as “nonsense” as he was never a candidate before Slot and the club aren’t looking “to change their head coach.”
The sooner we start winning again, the better!

Today’s LFC News: Gomez injection and another right-back ruled out

• It has been revealed that Joe Gomez needed a painkilling injection for a knee injury last week, it’s why he could not start vs. Forest. If only that was explained earlier, would’ve saved Slot some strife!
• If you were hoping to see Calvin Ramsay get a shot vs. PSV you’re unfortunately going to be disappointed as he is not eligible. Hopefully Joey is fit for this one!
• Slot’s assistant Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been linked with the vacant head coach role for the Indonesia national team. That would be two assistants gone in less than two seasons!
• Paul Doyle, the man accused of the parade crash, was in court on Tuesday for the start of his trial as the jury was sworn in. He entered not guilty pleas for four counts. (PA)
Slot’s subs are doing Liverpool NO favours
Arne Slot was praised last season for his tactical nous, but now his initial selection and subsequent substitutions are doing Liverpool few favours, writes Joanna Durkan:
“It is an acceptance that there is no plan other than to throw the kitchen sink and see where the broken pieces end up, which does little to bestow belief or confidence in the players or fans.
“There is a level of stubbornness at play, a determination to put players in unfavourable positions when there are alternative options, which is underlined when midfielders move to the backline.
“Szoboszlai, for one, is Liverpool’s best player of the season and while there is an acceptance of injuries at right-back, he should not be pigeon-holed in a position that inhibits his best qualities.”

Liverpool FC: On this day

It’s birthday wishes for Steve Heighway, who turns 78!
His name is readily sung at Anfield and beyond, and rightly so after making 475 appearances, scoring 76 times and winning four league titles, two European Cups, two UEFA Cups, an FA Cup and Super Cup.
Heighway signed for the club in 1970 and departed in 1981 for the US, only to return and become a key figure in the club’s youth development over the following decades.
He no longer works at the club having retired in 2022, but can be spotted at academy matches from time to time ready to share his wisdom.
