Opinion: 58-touch Everton player may just force David Moyes into transfer U-turn after Man…

Everton boss David Moyes may just have ripped his January transfer plans up after what he saw in the 1-0 win over Manchester United on Monday night.

Everton were incredibly resolute against Manchester United in the Premier League, despite being reduced to 10 men early on – and their defence was outstanding, limiting United to only a handful of decent chances.

It marked David Moyes’ first win in the Premier League away at Old Trafford, having only done so in the Carabao Cup before with West Ham.

However, the performance of Vitaliy Mykolenko may just have forced a change in his transfer activity – despite a move for Arsenal prodigy Myles Lewis-Skelly being heavily touted in the past few days.

Everton have been linked with Myles Lewis-Skelly in recent weeks

Everton’s left-back woes in recent times saw Myles Lewis-Skelly touted for a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Arsenal youngster burst onto the scene for the Gunners last year, making 39 appearances in all competitions and scoring his first goal for the club, as well as netting for England against Albania in March on his Three Lions debut.

However, with Arsenal being so sturdy at the back this season, Riccardo Calafiori has nailed down that first-team spot and it has left Lewis-Skelly fighting for minutes.

He’s yet to start in the Premier League this season, only really being introduced to see games out in the Premier League.

However, on his full appearances for the club, he’s registered assists in both Carabao Cup wins against Port Vale and Brighton, as well as an assist against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

It’s seen Everton linked with his services, and Lewis-Skelly has been told to join Everton if he is to move on loan from the Emirates Stadium this season.

Everton may not opt for Lewis-Skelly this January after Mykolenko performance

However, despite Lewis-Skelly being likely to be a solid addition for Everton, Vitaliy Mykolenko’s performance against Manchester United was exceptional.

Per Sofascore, Mykolenko took 58 touches of the ball, winning his only tackle, making eight clearances and completing two recoveries.

He also wasn’t dribbled past, won one of his two ground duels, and crucially completed 19 passes to keep the Toffees in possession.

A night to remember for Everton. It was their first Premier League win at Old Trafford since 2013.

Mykolenko has come under fire in recent weeks, but his performance against Manchester United was resolute and it helped Everton to a famous victory.

The Ukrainian was serenaded by the travelling fans after keeping Bryan Mbeumo quiet on the wing, and that could see him remain as first-choice left-back if he keeps up his form.

Mykolenko’s contract is expiring at the end of the season but consistent displays could change his future.
