There is a lot of talk about Xabi Alonso taking over for Arne Slot right now.
The Reds’ awful start to the season has thrust them into the spotlight, with many fans starting to believe that change is needed before it is too late.
The majority of Liverpool supporters believe Slot should be sacked already after how bad they have been, but the Dutchman still remains in the job for now.

How long for is anyone’s guess, but based on the fact that there are already rumours linking Alonso to the job, it would suggest he does not have too much time to turn it around.
If this does happen, though, and the former Reds midfielder does take over next, then there is one big issue he will be able to solve, and it is a pretty big one that Slot has not had the answer to as of yet.

Xabi Alonso would be able to sort Liverpool’s issues at full-back
Liverpool have had plenty of problems so far, but their defence is the area that has been the biggest concern.
Not only are they conceding far too many goals, but individual players also do not look like themselves, with the full-backs the ones who are not doing what they have done in previous seasons.
Milos Kerkez has not been able to use his attacking threat, and the same can be said about Jeremie Frimpong when he is fit, with both not being used to their strengths.

Alonso, however, would be able to get the best out of them, with the Spaniard liking to use wing-backs in a five-at-the-back formation.
He uses three centre-backs across the backline when in possession, allowing both of the wing-backs to bomb on down the wing, which is exactly what they are both good at.

Another issue right now is that Liverpool fans seem a bit divided, with many arguing about whether Slot should stay or go.
This is why many have mentioned bringing Jurgen Klopp back, as he would bring everyone, including the players, closer together again.
However, Alonso could still have a similar effect as he is adored by the fanbase because of his playing career, with players also respecting him for what he has achieved.
Not only this, but he did an amazing job at Leverkusen and is having a good time at Madrid too; it is just factors mainly beyond his control that are causing him issues.
