Predicted Liverpool team to face PSV Eindhoven

Liverpool and Arne Slot have had no time to dwell on their disappointing 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield last weekend.

The Reds face a quick turnaround ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League clash with Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven, and will be desperate to respond in style.

It’s no secret that Slot’s squad have struggled to replicate the outstanding form that saw them top the Champions League league phase and win the Premier League title.

And heading into the PSV meeting, the Reds have several injury concerns to navigate, with a trip to West Ham also looming next weekend.

Slot admits he is facing a significant defensive headache, with Joe Gomez still working towards full fitness.

Gomez, who has completed a full 90 minutes only twice in nearly 11 months, was unable to take part in several training sessions last week after receiving a painkilling injection in his knee.

Although the 28-year-old was named in the squad for the 3-0 defeat to Forest, he did not feature, even with both of Liverpool’s regular right-back options, Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong, sidelined through injury.

Asked about Gomez at his press conference, Slot said: “He is one of the five defenders we have [available].

“Normally I wouldn’t go into detail maybe that much but he had an injection last week on his knee.

“So, that means that’s normally not because you don’t feel anything.

“Apart from maybe me making the decision to play Dom or someone else in that position, this is also to do with him not being completely fit.

“Although, he is in the group tomorrow, as he was on Saturday. But [he] wasn’t able to train last week every single time.”

Curtis Jones, who operated in midfield at the weekend, could be asked to fill in at right-back if required.

Below is Liverpool’s predicted team to face PSV Eindhoven:

Alisson; Szoboszlai, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Gakpo, Ekitike; Isak
