Chelsea are said to be getting ready to spend £133 million on two FC Porto players, Samu Aghehowa and Victor Froholdt, when the January transfer window opens. Under Enzo Maresca, the Blues are said to be focusing on adding players to their attack and midfield, and raiding the Portuguese club is a part of their winter plans.
Chelsea have increased their scouting presence in Portugal and named Aghehowa and Froholdt as their top targets. They want to add players with proven quality and long-term potential. Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid are also interested in Aghehowa, so they may need to act quickly if they want to convince Porto to sell.
Aghehowa has done very well since moving to Porto from Atletico Madrid in 2024. He has scored nine goals and assisted one in 15 games across all competitions. Porto doesn’t want to sell him in the middle of the season, and they are likely to insist that any buyer pays the full value of his release clause.
Chelsea are reportedly preparing an offer of around £80 million. According to further reports, Tottenham are “very keen” on the striker. However, sources close to Stamford Bridge say that the Blues may have to “move quickly” if his form continues to attract competition.
Froholdt is a box-to-box midfielder who has become very important to Porto. They are three points clear at the top of the Primeira Liga after 11 matches, and he starts every league game. Diego Simeone, the coach of Atletico, is said to “love” the young player.
Chelsea scouts have been “checking in regularly,” and other teams, like Manchester United, Brighton, and even Real Madrid, are also interested. Porto is thought to value Froholdt slightly below his €85 million release clause. If a big offer comes in that would let the Dragons add more depth to their squad, they might sell him in January.
Getting Froholdt and Aghehowa would be a big step for Chelsea and align with the club’s ongoing plan to spend heavily on young players.
Why do Chelsea Want to Sign Frohldt?
Chelsea are very interested in Froholdt because Maresca has reportedly stressed the importance of energetic, versatile midfielders who can drive transitions and help in both phases of play. The Danish teenager has a strong mix of vision, ball-handling skills, and long-range shooting, making him a good fit for a team looking to be more dynamic between the lines.
Froholdt has been consistent for Porto, starting every league game so far this season. This shows how durable and tactically important he is to a team currently at the top of the Portuguese top flight.
