Liverpool will be able to make some new signings when the January transfer window opens up for business
Liverpool haven’t clicked yet this season under Arne Slot and have struggled for consistent results. They were beaten 3-0 at home by Nottingham Forest in their last game. The Reds have slipped down to 12th place in the Premier League table after their first 12 fixtures.
The Merseyside outfit managed to win the title in the last campaign. They have the chance to sign some new players in the January transfer window. Slot will also get the opportunity to let some individuals head out the exit door as well this winter if needed.
Liverpool eye Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior
Vinicius, 25, is a Brazil international with 45 caps under his belt so far in his career. He started out at Flamengo and rose up through their academy ranks. The forward broke into the first-team of the Rio de Janeiro-based club back in 2017 and went on to play 69 matches in all competitions, chipping in with 14 goals.
Real Madrid then lured him away from South America and he made the switch over to Europe as a youngster in 2018. He has since enjoyed plenty of game time with the La Liga giants over the past seven years. The Sao Goncalo-born man has scored 111 goals in 340 matches altogether since his transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu but he is in limbo at this moment in time amid expected attention from elsewhere.
Would Vinicius Junior suit Liverpool?
Liverpool could see Vinicius as someone to bolster their attacking department. If he joined, he would give them more competition and depth at the top end of the pitch. He would offer Slot more pace and power going forward and something different to what he has already at his disposal.
The Reds need to start thinking about potential long-term Mo Salah replacements. His deal expires next year and he won’t be sticking around forever. They have been continually linked with AFC Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo but it remains to be seen at this stage whether they will be able to get him out of Dorset at this moment in time.
Vinicius may now be seen as an alternative. It appears he is poised to leave Real Madrid at some point in the not so distant future. A move to England would be a good change of scene for him and a chance to show what he can do in a new country.
He won “Best FIFA’s Men’s player” this time last year. Brazilian legend Ronaldo subsequently heaped some high praise on him and posted on Instagram: "It has been 16 years since the last time the trophy for the best player in the world came to Brazil. Now deservedly in Vini's hands, it means much more than his decisive role in the games and the extraordinary numbers in the 2023/24 season."
