The Phoenix Suns did a full 180 turn this summer, and after trading Kevin Durant and letting go Bradley Beal out of the team, they decided to go with a younger group featuring Jalen Green, Ryan Dunn, Oso Ighodaro and more — paired with the experience led by four-time All-Star Devin Booker, Dillon Brooks, and Royce O'Neale with playoff experience.
One of those younger guys that they decided to take a chance on was Koby Brea, whom they selected with a second-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft out of the University of Kentucky and who is currently on a Two-Way contract with the organization.
Brea, born in Washington Heights, New York but with Dominican roots, established himself as one of the best three-point shooters in College Basketball last season.
This season, Brea made his NBA debut against the San Antonio Spurs, playing four minutes and scoring four points. Since then, “Fuego” has spent time in the NBA G League with the Valley Suns and is averaging 20 points and seven rebounds through five career games.
Letting it fly
He set a career-high 30 points against the Stockton Kings earlier this month. Although his three-point percentage is at 30% in the G, he’s definitely been one of the ball-dominant players on the Valley Suns squad, averaging 10 three-point attempts per game — the definition of “letting it fly.”
Can’t imagine Brea not cracking into the Phoenix Suns rotation at some point during the season. Having said that, the Suns have recorded a solid start to the season, positioning themselves as the sixth seed through 16 games and recording impressive wins over the Timberwolves, Clippers, and Mavericks.
Only time will tell with “Fuego,” but without a doubt, the 23-year-old is one of the best hidden gems in the NBA with his effectiveness from behind the arc.
