Manchester City's impressive 23-match unbeaten streak at the Etihad in Champions League group games came to a crashing halt with a 2-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen. City, who could have virtually secured at least a play-off spot with a win, were noticeably outplayed and Pep Guardiola's significant team changes proved unsuccessful after he made 10 changes to the starting eleven.
The attack was particularly weak, while the defence allowed Alejandro Grimaldo to score the opening goal. Despite making three changes at half-time, Leverkusen managed to double their lead through Patrik Schick. Even the introduction of Rayan Cherki and Erling Haaland couldn't get City on the scoreboard.
