Liverpool have the opportunity to freshen up their ranks in the upcoming January transfer window

Liverpool have the chance to make more signings when the January transfer window opens up for business. They also have the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door as well if needed. The Reds have underperformed so far this season and need to improve.

Their form has slumped over recent times and they have slipped down to 12th place in the Premier League table after their first 12 fixtures. Pressure will start to intensify on Arne Slot if results don’t improve. They were beaten 3-0 at home by Nottingham Forest last time out.

Liverpool transfer update regarding Antoine Semenyo

Liverpool have held ‘concrete talks’ with AFC Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florain Plettenberg. They are keen to lure the attacker to Anfield amid competition from league rivals. His contract with the Cherries expires in 2030 but he has a release clause.

Reporter Plettenberg has posted on X: “Understand Liverpool are seriously working on Antoine Semenyo for the winter window, and concrete talks have already taken place. LFC are fully aware of his release clause of around €70 million. Liverpool want him, but there is heavy competition, with other top English sides involved. Bayern are currently not in the race. The 25 y/o versatile winger is under contract with Bournemouth until 2030.”

Semenyo, 25, has been a key player for Bournemouth since joining them back in 2023. He has scored 28 goals in 101 games for the Dorset outfit since his transfer, six of which have come this season. The attacker is a Ghana international with 32 caps under his belt.

Will Liverpool be able to sign Antoine Semenyo?

Liverpool could see Semenyo as someone to bolster their attacking department. Time will tell whether they are able to lure him away from Bournemouth. If he joined, he would give them more competition and depth at the top end of the pitch.

Former Reds man Jamie Redknapp said on Sky Sports earlier this month: “I use the word unique about him. He has so many different attributes that not many people possess. Not many people have that kind of power. He’s so hard to play against.”

Semenyo rose up through the academy at Bristol City and was a regular for the Championship side at various different youth levels before going on to play 125 matches for their first-team, finding the net on 21 occasions. He was also loaned out away from the Robins to Bath City, Newport County and Sunderland to get some experience away from Ashton Gate.

Bournemouth then swooped in and he hasn’t looked back since. He has made the step up to the top flight with ease and the Cherries will face a real battle to keep hold of him amid expected attention in him down the line. The Chelsea-born man would be ideal for Liverpool if they managed to snap him up. It has been a tough campaign to date for the Reds and Slot has struggled to find the right formula.
