It seems like everyone who follows the Arizona Cardinals has an opinion about Kyler Murray’s future with the team.

Debates in the desert have raged. Some argue that Kyler Murray never had good enough support in Arizona, while others have seen enough in seven seasons. Jacoby Brissett‘s solid play while Murray has been out has also added another dynamic to the quarterback storyline for the Cardinals.

Former Arizona players have joined the conversation. With it appearing likely that Murray will get traded this offseason, former Cardinals All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu suggested that Murray would be a good fit for an AFC East team.

Tyrann Mathieu ‘Can See’ Kyler Murray with the Miami Dolphins

Tyrann Mathieu was interviewed by CasinoBeats on November 25th, and he had some thoughts about the Arizona quarterback situation.

Mathieu, who played for the Cardinals from 2013 to 2017, seemed to think a separation between Arizona and Murray makes sense for both parties.

Where should Murray play next? Mathieu told CasinoBeats that the Miami Dolphins are an interesting potential landing spot.

“I think at the quarterback position, it’s hard to find those guys that can kind of do it all. For him, a great team, I can see him with Miami,” Mathieu said about Murray. Those relationships are kind of hard to judge sometimes because I don’t know what Kyler particularly needs, but I think a change of scenery is for sure needed.”

Cardinals legend Tyrann Mathieu weighs in on the Kyler situation.

“I think Kyler is still very much talented. I think he’s still a really good quarterback, but I think both (sides) are looking for different situations. I think Kyler is probably wanting to go to a team that has a

Kyler Murray in South Beach would certainly draw some eyeballs.

He would also have some speedy targets at his disposal. Throwing to Jaylen Waddle, De’Von Achane, and Tyreek Hill would be tempting for any quarterback. Add in Mike McDaniel calling the plays, and you could envision Murray having some success with the Dolphins.

Murray to Miami definitely makes some sense, but Mathieu thinks it is best for Murray to leave Arizona altogether.

“I think, a lot of times it’s not a bad thing to start over or restart, go somewhere else to get a fresh breath,” Mathieu said. “I think Kyler may need that; I think the Cardinals may need that. It’s a lot of money they’re paying him.”

Whether it is with the Dolphins or elsewhere, Mathieu thinks a change of scenery is most beneficial for Murray’s career. Funny enough, the All-Pro safety thinks Arizona would benefit from a new quarterback as well.

Would the Miami Dolphins Trade for Kyler Murray?

If Murray were to join Miami, he would have to arrive there via trade.

Murray has proven himself as a solid NFL quarterback and the Cardinals could get a decent haul back for him in a trade.

One potential complication in a Murray deal is that the team acquiring him would have to assume the final two years of his five-year, $230.5 million contract that he signed in 2022.

The Dolphins could be well-suited to take on a big contract like that. They signed Tua Tagovailoa to a four-year extension worth $212 million in 2024, so Murray’s future average salary won’t feel that expensive.

Will the Cardinals and Dolphins swap quarterbacks this offseason?

Probably not. But it’s a fun trade to consider for both teams.

Maybe the Honey Badger is on to something…
